Best lens for architecture? Nikon D5200?
I like shooting architecture, and have a Nikon d5200. I need a sharp wide angle lens, if possible 600€ 800 tops… Thanks!
The problem with shooting architecture, both exterior and interior views, with wide angle lenses is a perspective distortion known as "keystoneing". The vertical edges of the structure aren't parallel. The edges lean in becoming narrower with greater distance from the camera. Our eyes tend to ignore the distortion but a photographic image emphasizes it. Nikon makes a specialized perspective control lens that employs a shift mechanism to correct the distortion to some degree.
Go to nikon.com and click through to photographic lenses to see the PC lens. Commercial architecture photographers use large format view cameras with swings and tilts to correct for all sorts of distortions but they don't easily fit into the typical camera bags that you and I use… They're more like luggage. Oh, and one more thing -- you mentioned a price range. These PC lenses are a bit pricy… In the range of 1500 Euros. We share a very expensive hobby.
