Which camera brand. Nikon or Canon?

Which camera brand do you prefer and which would you suggest to a fellow photographer? Choose between Nikon and Canon.

Compare and the contrast the quality, price, durability, efficiency, etc of each brands cameras.

I'm getting a Christmas present for a family member who is a professional photographer but I can't choose which brand.

Nikon? Or Canon?

Why restrict your self to just those two? Are they all you have heard of?
If your friend is a professional they will already have equipment - what is it? There's no point buying something incompatible with what they already have.

Pentax, I wouldn't give either of those house room.

If he's a professional photographer, he'll have all the kit he needs and throwing away $6000+ without a lens is a waste of money.

Even if he isn't, he should know what he wants and buy it for himself.

You could do a search here and read what has been written here day after day.

Or you could spend some time asking the photographers you see at sports events with their Nikon and Canon cameras.

Or you could do some independent research, visiting the Nikon and Canon websites, DP Review and DxO. After you have spent some time doing that, visit a proper camera shop and hold your choices in your hands. Then you will know which is best for you, not based upon popularity or opinion

You go with Canon because the picture quality is so good
