I'm looking into cameras but not sure what to look in for so here is what i'm planning to do:

High resolution still pictures
Time lapse beyond a day or maybe two?
Many photos at once so I ca capture everything from start to finish
Reliable and portable
Mainly for purpose of travel, snap, travel, snap

Your requirements can be met quite easily…

I'm not suggesting a camera for you… You can do your own research… I reckon some people that post questions on here actually are interested less in photography and seem to be more interested in asking questions…

High Resolution still pictures… Not a problem for most cameras (just avoid smartphones)
Time Lapse… Just check that any camera that you are interested in has the ability to do time lapse (an intervalometer)… Some cameras have the option of an intervalometer as an additional accessory, i'd also recommend a camera that can accept a battery grip for extra power to last the duration of your shoot.
Many photos at once… This might be problematic… This capability varies between cameras… Some cameras are limited to an amount of shots fired in a sequence before the camera hits the 'buffer'… The buffer has to write the information to your memory card before you can begin shooting your next sequence… It's something that you need to look out for if 'burst mode' or 'continuous mode' is something you do a lot of… It varies between models… And this level of spec or 'capability' tends to be found more on enthusiast or Pro grade cameras which are more expensive.
Reliable and Portable… Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony all have good reputations for reliability… How portable is something you should be able to work out for yourself… After all you are the one that's going to be using it.
Mainly for travel and snapshots… Any camera can be used for this.
