What dslr camera to buy?

I've been fastenated with photography and decided its about time I get a DSLR. Any recommendations on what to buy. I'm on a budget of less than a grand and wodnt mind buying used. I'm leaning to Nikon and Pentax right now. I'm a person who is willing to learn and take the time to do things manually so I probably won't be using a lot of automatic features. Also do you recommend buying used. Where should I buy from to get a good price I'm thinking just amazon but I don't know.

Find a dealer and handle them.

While it's nice that you can see Pentax as the contenders they are, you'd be better off looking at All the alternatives before committing yourself.

Look at the entry level Canon and Nikons, as well as Pentax.
It really is a matter of preference as to which one you like.
If possible get hands on by playing with each brand at camera store.

If I were you I would go with a Nikon or Canon camera as you will quickly find that it is not only about what camera but what glass (lens) you attach to it. These two brands have fantastic cameras and glass. If you think that you may get into photography more or at least keep it as a hobby then you will want to be able to upgrade your camera in the future and not have to buy new lenses.

If you have the money look at the new Nikon D810 http://www.photosincolor.com/nikon-d810-camera-review-and-sample-photos/

Or an entry level Nikon.
I have been shooting with Nikon for 10 years, it started as a hobby and I now shoot professionally.

I would recommend Canon. I've used them for years and never had one let me down.
