Thoughts on the Nikon 1 V1 camera?

My thoughts? This is an EVIL camera - Electronic Viewfinding Interchangeable Lens. As such it's nothing better than a way over priced and over rated pocket today. Save some money and buy a pocket toy or buy a real camera, a dslr.

A fine camera. Do not listen to someone who has a photo of themself holding a very expensive DSLR and that choses to use an acronym of EVIL when describing the V1.
What do you need the camera for? If you want to upgrade from a shoot and point then it's worh your time. If you want to shoot wildlife and sports, then yes, you need a DSLR. The V1 offers good image quality and low light performance at a more reasonable price than a DSLR and much smaller size. It really is a hybrid of smaller point and shoots and DSLR. At the end of the day though, the V1 doesn't have an actual shutter like a DSLR and as result it won't be as fast. The V1 does have some competition from Olympus, Sony and Panasonic. I would compare and contrast all of these and decide for yourself whether it's the one you'd want.

At the original MSRP of $899, it was grossly overpriced.
At the current $299 (B&H), it is a good deal.
I bought one at the $299 price, and I use it as my second/backup camera after my DSLR. At that price, it is a good camera.

The only thing i don't like about the camera is the absence of a viewfinder which spoils the mood of photography especially when its such a costly camera and should have possessed such an essential commodity in judging the manual focus for best shots ahead!
