Camera and photography experts, what are your thoughts on this?
I've been doing some research to find the perfect camera for me, I think I'm more inclined to buy a Canon over a Nikon so I've decided on this one:

Now, I could buy just the body and buy a different lens or I could get the entire kit which comes with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens.
Is this a good lens? Should I go for the kit or buy the body and the lens separately?
I just got a nikon d3100 with 2 lenses. £500.great camera.

I own a t1i by Canon and it's an excellent camera for both stills and video. The t3i, keep in mind,
is Canon's current top of the line consumer dslr and is a great camera. Yes, I'd say it's a very good choice.
The 18-55 is a good lens - not great but good. I use it for shooting video because of it's IS. If I'm shooting tripod I use my primary lens the 28-200 and it's an excellent lens. But my 28 doesn't have IS so I prefer the 18-55. Yes it's a good lens, clear, sharp stills and video.
