Olympus, Nikon or Canon?

I Love Taylor Swift

I want to change my compact digital camera. It's an Olympus. I've always had Olympus and they've always been good. However, I've never been happy with this one (had it about 18 months), so I want to change it. But I don't want to end up with another camera I don't like.

In get the "feeling" that Nikon are better than Olympus?

Budget?

Buy a good dslr. Even a canon 1100, or nikon3200. You can unfurl your creativity petals a lot more with them

Forget the Idiots' Two if you're going for a compact, or even a bridge. Their DSLRs are no better than anyone else's, they just shout louder.

Fujifilm make better and/or cheaper bridge cameras, and compacts are all much the same, except for the extra you'll pay for a Canon/Nikon logo.

If you like Olympus, stick with them.

Nikon and Canon to date are fighting for first place. I love them both so I couldn't really say. I don't think you could go wrong with either. I own a Canon 60d which is 18mps and cost me $1500 and my mom owns a Nikon 3200 which is 24mps, costs a third of the price and takes just as good photos. I know nothing about Olympus however. I still take most photos with my phone lol.

Firstly, change to a Canon or a Nikon if you really have to!
Do you want a DSLR or Compact? What is your budget.
For something well under £200 I have a Canon SX 240HS and it is great. Well built, with a 20x zoom. Full auto but with plenty of features to enable you to take control if you want to.
Canon are currently offering a £30 cash back on this one.

Depends on what class of camera you're getting. Olympus have rather mastered the mirrorless system camera, by cornering the market first. Canon have done well in the high end bridge, and mid-range DSLR sector, they've also got a good selection when it comes to mid range glass. Nikon have made some great advances in recent years pulling their pro-grade gear up to Canon's level of performance while maintaining the best in class for quality, on balance Nikon probably have the edge right now in the pro sector, but it's not difficult for Canon to take over yet again. Between the two it's been tit-for-tat since the 1960's, and this competition has pushed both manufacturers to produce the most innovative technology.

Olympus hasn't has the financial backing of Canon/Nikon so I think they've had to think cleverly to corner new sectors of the market. By not competing at the top table, Olympus cornered a sector of the market during the 1970's and 80's as the "poor man's Leica" only to lose momentum in the 1990s. Right now they're on the high brought to them by the MicroFourThirds system, but as the giants catch up Olympus may once more be swamped.

Nikon's compact cameras are not that great. Canon, Sony, Fuji and Panasonic are your best options in this category. Sony has some compacts with Carl Zeiss lenses. Some of the Panasonic Lumix are re-branded as Leicas (at triple the cost) and come with Leica lenses, so that tells you how nice they are.
