My Nikon N2000 is not working and I don't know why?

I just bought a Nikon N2000 at a thrift store and it already had batteries in it. I got some film and I put it in correctly to the red mark and whenever I try to take a picture it beeps and it says there's no film. I have it set on single and on P but for some reason it is not working. The film is not moving and I don't know how to fix it. I'm new to this so I need good details please.

In all likelihood the camera is dead and fairly useless due to an electronics failure. As repair guys will tell you, everything can be repaired but at what cost?

The N2000 is an old plastic, automated consumer grade camera and you bought it at a thrift shop and expect it to work. What is wrong with this picture?

If you want to get into film photography, this is no way at all to go about it!

Buy a decent quality all manual Nikon like a Nikon FM or Nikkormat FTn (from $50-$150) that is made of metal and is serviceable from a reputable camera shop that offers a warranty like KEH.com.

Yes, you will spend more money but you will be out shooting instead of screwing around with a garbage camera trying to make it work and hoping that a shot or two comes out right after you've spend $2-$7 for the film and another $5-$10 for processing only to find out the film was ruined by the camera.

It's entirely possible that your N2000 would work if you put fresh batteries in it but I can tell you that the light seals are most likely rotten in this camera and that alone can cost you $30 in repairs.

Take things seriously. Buy yourself a good camera and learn to shoot film. Spend your money on good photos, not getting a near valueless camera to work right.

This is a really great website to read thoroughly and learn to shoot film with:

Try putting in new batteries and put film beyond the red mark.

Just because it had batteries in it doesn't mean they are any good!
Okay, it beeps, but that might just mean that the battery power is low.
Try replacing the batteries and make sure the film is loaded correctly.
