Your best bet is to find someone local to you for an hour or so of 'hands on' instruction. You seem to have been able to take some pics with that camera, so really it's up to you to experiment - it costs nothing to experiment in digital. Very distant objects will need a tele zoom lens, which you may need to buy, but you may have already, something like 55 to 200mm or 70 to 300mm. Very close small objects ideally need a true macro lens, but you could start with a 'macro filter', otherwise called a 'close-up lens'; it's like putting spectacles in front of your standard zoom lens.

You need to take a basic camera course. Check with your local community college and the local camera shops.

If you know nothing about DSLR photography why would you buy a $700 camera in the first place?
