Could you possibly give me any reviews on the

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens

It is an entry level Nikkor DX lens.

It is perfectly usable under most conditions when shooting outdoors.

It is designed for those who like to shoot action, sports and wildlife.

Here is what owners have to say

At under $400 it will provide you with a good range.

Your only alternative would be adding these two lenses to your kit.

The 70-200 mm at $2, 400 and the 300 mm f/2.8 at only $9, 550

As you can see, for the price the 55-300 mm is a good choice

I personally own this lens.
As it is an entry level kit lens you won't get the world's most amazing quality but it is quite a practical lens. I prefer it to my other kit lens because it has a far zoom. My suggestion would be if you're shooting very zoomed in to get a tripod so your pictures aren't shaky.
Another issue that I have with this lens is the weight. It's a heavy lens and if you don't have strong arms (my arms are jell-o) you'll get pretty tired. Again, a tripod or some exercise would solve this problem.
Overall a good buy!

You might want to look at some image samples from using that lens. Then you can see for yourself.
