How to set my Canon T3i into IR mode?

I just got a wireless shutter remote from best buy, and it says to set my SLR to IR mode. I don't know how to set it. The wireless remote is a plain rocket-fish remote.
i asked them if it would be compatible, they said yes, but i'm having second thoughts because the package says it's compatible with most Nikon SLRS.

Well since Nikon's are NOT Canon's they just lied to you.

You need to return it and get one that your camera can use like the Canon Remote Switch RS-60E3 or Remote Control RC-6

Your Instruction Manual has information regarding Remote Control Shooting… Pages 261-262. I suppose you must have missed that part of the manual?

According to the BestBuy website, you need a Model: RF-RSCWLC12 SKU: 4675422 remote for your camera. If that is NOT the one you bought, take it back and get the correct one. And remember…

Asking a BestBuy employee a camera question is like asking a McDonald's employee how to make Vichyssoise. There are some that know what they are talking about, but they are few and far between.

In addition to what already was said, note that DSLRs usually don't have such a thing as IR mode. For taking IR photos one needs to use a specific filter that removes all but IR light. Some also need to have an additional filter in front of the sensor physically removed by someone with camera repair skills (Joe Average would likely ruin the camera by trying to do this himself).

Jens, in the future, please try to pay attention and actually READ the question. The IR question was referring to the remote (since the remote uses IR to trigger the camera). NOWHERE in the question was it asked about how to shoot IR images or how to configure the camera to take IR pictures.

It's no wonder people get confused with the answers they get.
