There's no reason, if you're even buying the correct batteries, why they wouldn't work.

Another question, are you sure you are putting them in the camera correctly?

Nikon does not make a camcorder

Are you sure it is not a P&S with video feature? Without a model number, there's not much we can do to specifically help you

If it uses AA batteries, then you need to buy some low self-discharge NiMH batteries. P&S cameras that use AA batteries are optimized for them.

You will need to buy four batteries and a charger

If you are talking about Li-ion batteries, you need to only buy Nikon batteries.

Always buy name brand batteries. I limit my choices to Duracell or Energizer. And buy the batteries from a store that has a fairly quick turnaround (people buying batteries rather than them setting on the shelf) so that you get fresh ones.

Alkaline or Lithium-Iron-Disulfide (Energizer Lithium) are the only non-rechargeable batteries you should use in your camera.

If you want to go rechargeable, go with Ni-MH batteries. I prefer the Maha/PowerEx over the Sanyo Eneloops as they have about 50% more capacity (2700mAH vs 19mAH), But the PowerEx are not low-self-discharge (meaning you have to recharge them once a month whether or not you use them).

If you want low-self-discharge (which will stay charged for a year or more) I would select the Maha/Imedion 2400s, as they are also more powerful than the Sanyo Eneloops.

Regardless of what rechargeable battery you buy, make sure the charger is matched to the battery. With Sanyo it is easy, you can buy a charger with the batteries. With Maha, you have to buy a charger separately.
