To Nikon camera, what's the difference between 18-105 mm and 18-55mm?

That been said, every other aspect are the same, but what is the difference between those sizes? Is one better than the other? If yes, please explain yourself, thank you.

For some reason i like to answer backwards! No, to my knowledge the 18-105mm is not better than the 18-55mm optically speaking. There may be a slight difference, however I doubt you will conduct a test where you make a 16x20 with each lens. For comfort wise I would choose the 18-55mm and then the next step up in the Nikon line up. Sorry I'm not familiar with Nikon's line up. BUT with my Pentax the next lens is a 50-200mm. In my case the 50-200mm is physically about the same size as the 18-55mm. The problem as I have observed (at a night school class) , where a gal brought her camera with a 18-135mm attached was the weight and bulk of the long lens. I found this out the hard way when I purchased a 18-200mm Tamron to take the place of All the lenses in between. That set up was just too heavy to tote around for longer than 20minutes! So weight around your neck should be your first consideration here.

The obvious is the 18-105 has twice the focal length at the long end (105 vs 55mm).

Optical quality is close to the same.

Build quality is better on the 18-105. The 18-55 is a pretty wobbly lens making it difficult to use in manual or fixed focus situations.

18-105 is a larger lens. Also costs more.

The 18-55 is considered to be the standard zoom lens that gets bundled with DSLR cameras, it's a decent lens to begin or start your photography journey with and as you learn you'll realise that you want to get other lenses to help you get different shots.

The 18-105 has more of a range than the 18-55, and will give you more scope (double the zoom range) it will allow you to frame what's in the viewfinder tighter than what you could do with the 18-55, basically I reckon if you opt for the 18-105 or 18-140 then you won't feel the need to rush out and add other lenses to your collection.

The difference is 50mm. 105 - 55 = 50mm. It is the difference of the longest focal length of the two lenses. So the 18-105mm has 50mm more reach. That makes it better for getting a photo of something further away.

I would not say one is better then the other but one has a longer focal length range. The 18-105 will allow you get closer to your subject then the 18-55 will. I would probably personally pick the 18-105 because it gives you a longer range of focal lengths.

Both of these are likely 3.5-5.6 aperture lenses which means they will not be great in low light. If low light is something you shoot a lot of go for a cheaper large aperture prime lens like the 50mm 1.8, to complement either of these slower lenses.
