Which new DSLR to buy?

I'm looking to buy a New DSLR. I currently have a Nikon D200, and Olympus Pen E-PL1. I know everyone is going to say stick with Nikon for the lenses I already have but also seen a great deal for a Canon T3i for 449 with the lens. I'm wanting to stay under 1000.IM not new to photography. I'm a photography student but do a lot of side work.

I'm just looking for a good back up dslr that preferably does video as well. I would like to have built in HDR but i still have to wait a year to get the D800 so a camera that will hold value well that I will be able to sell in the future.

I could ramble on and on. Any recommendations for a new camera.

So far I have seen glowing reviews of the new D7100, so it is probably worth saving up for that. If you want an extra body now on a tight budget, you can get a good deal on the Nikon D5100.

If you really want to cross over to Canon, then you should save for at least the T4i and get chromatic aberration correction and use of STM features.

I have the T3i/600D by Canon and its an amazing camera. You get a lot of high quality (1080p HD) images and video. It's very user friendly for experienced DSLR users/photographers/videographers.

One easily fixable issue is the ISO when doing video. If you have it up to like 1600-6400 it tends to get pretty grainy and nasty. I mostly use it for short/feature length films and it works like a charm. You just need to have some good lighting. Does FANTASTIC when shooting outdoors.

does not have headphone port. So if you're planning on doing audio monitoring during video then you're gonna have to get an external recorder (preferably the ZOOM H4N)

I'm not entirely sure if it comes with built in HDR but if not you can get it by putting the Magic Lantern firmware on one of your SD cards. It's perfectly legal, you can remove it whenever you want, it only goes on your SD card (not your camera), and comes with many good features like HDR, Follow Focus, Zebras (for over and underexposure), and focus peak (it tells you when your subject is in focus).it has a lot more but my answer is getting long.
