Which is the better DSLR camera? The Nikon D40x or the Nikon D3000? From what I've read about them they seem a lot the same… So what's the difference between them?
The D3000 is still available new.
Both D40X and D3000 is for beginners. Neither of them are best. However, for the one who is not very familiar with photography. For the best one, mm… I think it is Nikon D800E

Have you had a look at the D3100, goes for about $450 + taxes
has 1920x1080, 24 fps video, where the above two offer no videography
Other features of the D3100 are woth considering, as also the warranty factor
Well if budget is a serious constraint for now, a DSLR is a DSLR and they all operate pretty much the same manner
Be forewarned that DSLR photography is not a cheap hobby, lenses cost big bucks and most good ones cost much more than the body itself
Short to medium term, you won't need anything more than the 18-55mm kit lens
