Upgrade from D5000 to D7000?

I'm thinking of upgrading from my D5000 which I have been using for the past 2 years and now I think I should upgrade the body to a D7000. Mainly because of its got better ergonomics and more physical buttons to change things, more buffer.etc

Is it a good time to buy the D7000 or should I wait for its replacement or a better camera from nikon in the next 5-6 months? I do not want to go full frame.

At this point, there's little rumor about an immediate replacement for the D7000.

I don't think you will see anything for 6 to 12 months, even if it is replaced. Nikon may have selected the full frame D600 as a replacement for the D7000, and perhaps they will wait to see sales figures, and if D7000 owners upgrade to the D600 before making any moves on a D7000 replacement (pure speculation on my part).

But since the D600 can use DX lenses without any issue (DX mode), it seems it is priced right to replace the D7000 with a lot more resolution.

I'm strongly considering replacing my D90 with the D600. I have 8 lenses - 4 of which are DX and 4 Full Frame. I look it like this; if I upgrade to the D600, I will get the full benefit of my full frame lenses, and my DX lenses will work no worse on the D600 than on a D7000; and buy me time to eventually replace them.

There's some rumor that Nikon may be toying with phasing out the DX format, but it is too early to tell, and perhaps they are waiting to see how demand drives the format. This is based in part on the low cost of the D600, and that Nikon has yet to provide a full range of DX lenses. Again, my speculation.

At any rate, if your needs are 6 months or less, I'd suggest buying a D7000 (or D600 and be done with it).

The D7000 will take you from an entry level dSLR to a semi-pro camera

* Semi-pro cameras have magnesium chassis with environmental seals
* There's a Nikon D7100 in the wings, but it may be three to six months before you see it. It may be well worth the wait, since it will have all the newest technology on-board

It's an upgrade if you don't want full frame.
fast burst, weather sealed, more megapixels, better iso grain, bigger screen, better resolution.
39 point AF, awesome for sports and action!

consider upgrading if you Really need these features. If not, buy a lens maybe?

in your case, i won't upgrade. I will buy a better lens.
but it all depends on you
