I have to decide between 1.8G AF-s or 1.4D both in 50mm prime lense. How is 40mm f/2.8 Micro on Nikon D3000. Pl. Give your suggestions

The 50mm D version won't autofocus on your camera.

The 40mm 2.8 is a specialised close-up lens, it performs very well if that's what you're looking for.

Your camera will autofocus only with AF-S lenses, such as the AF-S 50mm f/1.4G not the AF 50mm f/1.4D.

I bought both the 35mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.8 lenses for my Nikon D90. I have found the wider 35mm much more useful for indoor family shots. The 50mm is just a little too wide, but maybe you have another use in mind. Of the f/1.4 or f/1.8, the 1.8 is much cheaper and most of us amateurs will never notice the difference.

The AF-S DX Micro 40mm f/2.8G is a great little lens that is next on my buy list. I have seen it give excellent bokeh for close up shots. If you want to do close up shots, like of flowers and bugs, then this would be a good buy.
