Best Nikon zoom lens?

Laura

I have a Nikon D3000 and I'm looking into getting a lens that zooms better than the one I have now… The one I have is the one that came with the camera. It's not terrible, but not great. What's the best Nikkor lens that's not super expensive?

The usual choice for that cameras of that tier, something I have done as well, is get the complimentary 55-200mm VR lens

It starts where your 18-55 ends, and goes on up to 200.

You can also get a bigger telephoto that is 55-300mm

I'm a professional photographer who shoots with Nikon. Nikon zoom lenses can get very expensive…

For sports I use two lenses. First is the 400mm f/2.8G ED VR which is about $9000.00 and the second is the 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II costing about $2200.00. Nikon makes lenses which are less expensive, but the actual quality of the glass refining process is less, therefore, your shoots are not as clear.

The 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR is not a bad lens, but I don't recommend going all the way to 300 with it.

Take a look at www.nikonusa.com for all the available lenses they make.

I think you alredy have 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens…
My suggestion - The Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Lens. It is a great lens. It has a perfect zoom that you can easily use thanks to the Vibration Reduction. Even at 200mm and in low light my shots are never blurry. It also makes great portrait. If you want to buy this camera lens I highly recommend you buyit through Amazon.
I bought Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR [Vibration Reduction] Zoom Nikkor Lens + 52mm UV Glass Filter + Accessory Kit for $189.95
