Impossible to help when you share nothing about your budget, what lenses you already have or what kind of photography you are interested in.

Nikon makes over 70 lenses that will fit the D7000, and when you include 3rd party lenses (Tokina, Sigma, Tamron) as well as lenses no longer made, there are literally hundreds of lenses available that will work on the D7000.

And the D7000 has a nice feature that will allow indexing of AI lenses.

For the available lenses, you could classify them in several groups; entry level/consumer grade, professional grade, as well as Telephoto, Normal, Wide Angle, Super Wide angle, Zoom, Prime (fixed focal length), Fisheye, Macro, Perspective Control, and other specialty lenses.

So there's no best lens as each lens is designed for a specific purpose. And within that specific purpose, there are dozens of price ranges, which affect the lens quality and brand you choose.

So think about what your needs are in a lens, and your budget; do you need more of a telephoto lens, or a lens for bird watching, a fast lens for sports, one for landscapes, perhaps portrait, or extreme close ups. All of these factors typically dictate a specialized lens for that purpose.

And that is basically the idea of the interchangeable lenses on a DSLR. Rather than having one mediocre all-purpose lens, you can specialize in a high-performance lens for each of your specific needs.

Nikon 6mm f2.8.

But I guess you'll have to save up for a while since it costs $161, 210. But that will make an ideal xmas present.
Hope it helps.

You don't ask for the best lens for a certain camera, but for the best lens for the type of photography you do. If you're a beginner, stick to the 18-55mm or 18-105mm kit lens until you get the basics down and figure out what you like to shoot. Then you will know what lens(es) you need.
