"Beginner"? What does that mean? Does it mean you've never held a camera before? Does it mean you've been shooting with a pocket toy but never a dslr? What does that mean?

I will tell you this. If you decide to buy a dslr, I own and only recommend Canon, and you plan on using it like a pocket toy - that is, using the screen for your view finder on full auto all the time then you're going to be wasting lots of money because these cameras are mean for serious photography with people who understand how to properly operate them.

If you are dslr experienced then you're not a beginner.

The Nikon D3100 or D3200 has what is called a "guide" feature to help you use the camera, but basically since all cameras work the same, all you have to do is pick the camera that feels best in your hands.

Whether you spend $700 or $40, 000 for a camera, you will need the same skills to get proper exposures with any of them

Handle both (and equivalent models within your budget from Pentax, Sony and Olympus) and pick the one you like.

Pentax take (and permit metering with ) their MF lenses. You also don't have to worry whether or not a given AF lens will autofocus with your camera because they all do.

Sony do better video.

Olympus are smaller and lighter.

Other than the above, there's no best - it's all down to how they feel in your hands.
