Would this Mic work on a Nikon D5100?

Would the following microphone work with a Nikon D5100:
Sony ECM-MSD1 Stereo Microphone

If not, does it need some sort of adapter?
In broader terms, which microphones would be compatible with the Nikon D5100?

One quick glance gave me the impression the D5100 mic port is 3.5mm stereo. A quick look at the Sony ECM-MSD1 mic images also makes me think the plug is 3.5mm stereo. They should be compatible at the port level. If you don't want to have any compatibility issues, get a Nikon mic. Try the Nikon ME-1 external mic.
