What lense should buy?

I want to buy the Nikon D5100 Camera, but i don't know which way of buying it would be best. My options are, either buy the camera body (separate) for $600 and a AF 70-300mm lense for $200, which totals to $800, my other option is to buy the nikon D5100 twin lense kit (which consists of the camera body, an 18-55 mm and 55-300 lense) for around $900. I don't know which one is better.

Once you learn to spell, 'Lens,' you'll probably realise that the 18-55mm is where everyone starts for a reason. Just make sure you include that in the final decision, it's the most useful lens you'll ever have.

Strike the 70-300mm AF from the list. It won't autofocus on your camera. In order to autofocus you need AF-S lenses, not AF.

I'm not a fan of twin lens bundles. The second lens is always a telephoto lens in these bundles. But a telephoto lens with "more zoom" is not a no-brainer choice. It may simply not be the right kind of lens for you and end up gathering dust on the shelf. Instead e.g. A macro lens for macro shots, a fast prime lens for low light photography or a ultra wide angle lens for architecture and landscape shots may be what you really need. The kit lens, 18-55 or preferably 18-105mm, will help you to find out what you really need. There's little point in taking your chances with a double lens kit, as the deals usually aren't that good.
