Nikon D60 dslr camera?

I was given a Nikon D60 dslr camera used as a gift. This is my first dslr camera. I have taken 3-4 thousand photos and am happy with the quality. My question is. Should I invest in more lenses and filters to get more out of this camera? Or sell it and upgrade?

Your first dslr. Let me ask, how are you taking those pictures? Using the view finder instead of the screen? Are you using the manual controls on the camera or shooting in full auto? Have you done any serious study about dslr cameras?

If you're using the screen, shooting in full auto and haven't studies photography at all I'd say don't upgrade anything. First learn how to effectively use this camera with the lens you have. Learn how to properly operate both camera an lens. Learn the relationship between ISO, shutter speed, aperture and light.

If you don't care about all that and just do snaps… Keep this camera. Buying a difference camera won't help anything above what you're already getting.

If however you are serious about photography and really want to learn… Still keep this one until you get very proficient with it.

There's only one filter you really need. A UV filter to protect the lenses front element from sticky fingers, mug or other things.

If you add a 55-200 mm lens, you will be able to shoot action, sports and some wildlife.

Before you do another thing, do this

* at the end of each shooting day, copy all the images to your computer, saving it in a new file folder named for the subject and date so you can find them again.
* once they are safely on your computer, format the memory card using the format feature on the camera.

Doing this, you will prevent ending up with corrupted memory cards.

Buy one or two extra memory cards (4 gb is enough) just in case you do fill the card in one days shooting.

Until you are using the camera intuitively, you do not have to consider upgrading. The D60 will produce images that have enough detail so you can make prints up to 11x14 inches if you want.

Stick with the D60 for now. It was my first DSLR. I bought mine new in 2008 and put over 40, 000 shutter actuation's on it.(sold it last year still worked great). The D60 is good because its simple as far as DSLR's go.

If you like Nikon then stick with the D60 and invest in lenses. The D60 uses the same F mount that every Nikon DSLR has used dating back to the D1.So you can use any older or current AF-S lens with the D60. The D60 will also work with any Nikon i-TTL speedlight.

The D60 is a good body to start with so I'd stick with it until you really start to learn what photography is all about. I actually like the fact that the D60 doesn't have live view because it forces you to learn how to properly frame your shots instead of using the monitor like a point and shoot camera.
