I have a Nikon D50 and I want to get a nice lens for it. I heard FX lenses are nice. Full Frame lenses, but can I use a full frame lens on my D50? Which lens should I buy for wide angle and Telephoto?

You can use any Nikon lens on a Nikon DSLR! Weather DX or FX. I could recommend the Nikkor 24-70. Nice all around lens. Also a wide angle 14-24 I think it is. But be prepared to throw out some good cash for these lenses. You can get almost as good of quality out of nikon's professional DX lenses. At a cheaper price point. When you mount fx lenses to a DX camera you waste a lot of the goodness of the fx lens. At least that's what I've heard some people say.

Yes, you can use either FX or DX lenses. In fact, I always prefer to buy FX lenses if I can as they allow a easier transition to a FX body should that opportunity ever present itself.

While the FX lenses will be heavier, larger, and more costly, they will work with 100% compatibility with your D50. And even then, FX lenses may often result in better photos. And if you want a professional level lens (f/2.8 zoom), you need to buy FX lenses.

It is well known that lenses tend to have sharper areas in the center of the lenses than the periphery. Since you will not be using the outer edges of the lens with a DX camera, you will be using only the best part of the lens.

Finally, even though your D50 is an entry level Nikon DSLR, you should also know that it has an internal focusing motor, which means you can autofocus both AF and AF-S lenses. This is the only Nikon entry-level camera with that feature.
