My nikon D70 won't shoot?
My nikon D70 will only take a picture when i point it towards lights, what am I doing wrong?
Probably it's too dark for the AF to work so it can't focus properly and won't let you take the photo. It does work with the light because there's more light there and it can focus.
A hundred things. Read the manual, then borrow a couple of books from your local library.
You need to tell us the ISO, lens, and mode settings you're using. It sounds like you may be at a low ISO level (eg: 100) and/or have your shutterspeed (eg: 1/400) set very high or your aperture set to a small f/stop (eg: f/22)
You may also have your autofocus switch on the D70 body set for AF-S, where it won't take a photo unless it has absolutely perfect focus. In low lighting, the camera is struggling to find that perfect focus.
Suggestion: Set your camera for now on P (programmed mode) and your ISO to 400 or higher. Be sure the AF switch is set for AF-C. If need be, go to A (aperture mode) and rotate the command dial until the f/stop is at the maximum for your lens.
Turn on your AF-ASSIST light. Go to menu, and search for that AF-ASSIST. Hope it helps, cheers!
To know if its working, a beam of yellow light will appear from your camera when you press the shutter half-way.
You have discovered the fact that photography is all about capturing light.
Set the camera to Auto mode, Auto ISO, Auto white balance, AF(-S) on, TTL flash, and EV to 0. Never change those settings ever again until you have enrolled yourself in a photography class.
