Is this lense compatible with the Nikon D5100?

I'm a new member of the DSLR family and I'd like to get into photography. My camera currently has the 18-55mm VR Lens. And I'd be mad to purchase this lense online and have it not fit. So thanks in advance! And any other helpful tips in different lenses/using them would be great too.

Sorry, but I don't think it will work on the 18- 55mm (Unless you're using the 50mm Nikkor VR the Wide Angle Adapter is intended for). The 18- 55 Lens you have has a 58mm filter size, and the 50mm lens has a 52mm filter size, so the 52mm Wide Angle adapter will only work on the 50mm.

However, you can get a 58mm to 52mm Step- Down ring, so that you can screw this adapter to your 18- 55mm lens. No guarantees it will focus correctly, but it will fit with the Step- Down ring.

Also try to find a Wide Angle Adapter built for your 18- 55mm Lens, otherwise you will need to get a Step- Down ring. Hope this helps!

Sorry to tell you, but this is a piece of junk. It is an add-on "lens" (really a fancy filter)

If you need a lens that is wider than you 18 mm, your best choice is the Nikkor 10-24 mm. Yes it cost more than $50, but if you want to produce high quality images with your fine D5100, it is what you need.

The same is true if you want a macro lens. The Nikkor AF-S 60 mm f/2.8 is what you need. It can shoot at macro image to subject ratios of 1:1, again NOT a $50 lens.

That add-on lens you listed comes with the adapters you will need to affix it to your 18-55 mm lens (52 mm filter thread), so if you don't mind spending $50 on basically a toy, go ahead, but continue saving your pennies for a real lens.

Marketing lies:

Professional High Definition: This is not even close to being a pro lens. HD only refers to video

Super wide Angle Lens: Sort of. If you multiply the 0.43 x 18 mm, you get a 7 mm lens (wide indeed). But there will be a lot of vignetting.

HD Mark III Special Edition. All marketing fluff and agian uses a video attribute, HD

Titanium Optics. Titanium is a metal. Enough said

Heavy Duty Construction. Maybe when compared to other add-on lenses

82mm Front Thread. Unless you intend to add a 82 mm filter on top of it, not a big deal

fits 52mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, 67mm, 72mm. This is important

A handy carrying case. Most lenses come with a lens case

CLOSE-UPs offer a world of new creativity and work well with both traditional film and digital SLR cameras. A 0.43x lens with your lens set to 55 mm is a wide angle (about 24 mm) To shoot macro shots with it will require you to be almost on top of the subject. The standard Nikkor macro lens is a 60 mm f/2.8.It allows you to some working distance so that you do not cast shadows on your subject

Enables Digital SLR lens to focus incredibly closer -- allowing you to take amazing pictures of small objects such as flowers, insects, jewelry, coins, and more. See above
