How to lightpaint with D50?

I just got a nikon D50 its my grandfathers old cam. I want to know how to cange the settings to light paint

* tripod
* remote shutter release
* pick a spot where it is dark
* using the bulb feature on your camera, lock your shutter open until you finish with your drawing.
* use a light to draw your light graffiti
* after a few tests, adjust the lens aperture until you get the best exposure.
