Buying a DSLR camera in South Korea without having international warranty. Is it fine?

I hail from India and currently in South Korea on business trip. I wish to buy a DSLR camera as they are far cheaper here as compared to prices in India.
However there's a catch! I'm planning to buy either a Nikon or Canon camera. Unfortunately neither of the two companies offer world-wide warranty.
My question is: should I buy a camera despite the fact that in case of fault, claiming warranty from India would be literally impossible?

Not only that, but they will only ship parts to the country of origin. You're best off buying a camera in your home country. Unless you travel frequently to where you are planning to buy it, you will never be able to get it fixed if it breaks.

The best thing to do is contact Canon and ask them about their "international warranty" and if that would apply to India… Also ask which South Korean sellers near you offer cameras with those.

The other thing to be aware of is when you return to India and go through customs, if they think that you bought the camera while you were out of the country, they can and will charge you Customs fees, Import duties, and VAT (Value Added Tax) on the camera/lens(es)/accessories based in the value of your receipts. If you don't have receipts, they can base it off of current prices in India. Which means the cheaper price in Korea may still cost you the same as if you bought the camera (with warranty) in India.

Nikon has international warranty. That's because they have very strict local distributorship areas. The Korean store you intend to buy from will have it's own designated service center which may be different from another Korean store in another city. It will be the same case in India. If you need your Nikon camera to be repaired while away from the store you bought it from, you'll have to spend for shipping your camera to the international service center. The Nikon service centers at India will not honor the camera's warranty. You can force them to repair your camera but you will have to pay dearly and you will be the last priority.

Canon should have no problems. You can have the camera fixed at any authorized service center anywhere around the world.
