Dslr without warranty

My friend is selling her nikon d3100 for 500 pounds with the 18-105 vr mm and also a bag to carry it in and all the accessories it came with. It is practically new, she got it about two weeks ago but decided to get a d90 instead. I, however, have a budget of 500 pounds therefore it is perfect for me.
The problem is she lost the warranty papers and didn't register the warranty on the nikon website.
so baisically: NO WARRANTY

would this be a problem? Have you ever had problems with your nikon d3100 that would be too expensive to pay for if not with your warranty? I really want to get this camera but is it worth it?

Since the camera is retailing for just over 400 pounds and given the extra lens and a bag it's probably worth the 500 if it's in the condition you say (believe) it is. Used gear is always a risk but since you know this party and are able to handle and shoot with the camera, and if it is indeed only 2-weeks old I'd say it's worth it.

The lack of warranty probably won't be a problem. Nikon and Canon are the best camera companies in the world and rarely have any problems.

Generally warranty does not transfer to second owners.

All of my cameras are out of warranty. I've had my D90 for over two years, so it is not under warranty either. I don't lose any sleep over it.

All you need to be sure of is that there are no defects from the get-go (as in making sure your friend has not dropped or abused it), and after that, I'd not be too concerned.

Even if you had the warranty card, they will still ask for the receipt. You would be best buying a new one from the store to get that all-important sales receipt. That's the only one honored by the store and service center to claim warranty. I bet the price difference would almost be nil. Not worth it.

You don't need the receipt, imagine it was bought as a present to you. Go on the Nikon website, put in the serial number that hasn't already been registered, say where it was bought. You then have a 2yr warranty.once registered you won't ever need your receipt to send it back.

Besides which, Nikon want you to buy more lenses flash guns and batteries, and steer you away from those dreadful Canon, Pentax and Olympus things they call cameras.
