Will my homemade water proof camera case work?

I have a nikon L-20, but it's already broken. Not like broken, cause it will work, but the screen is blacked out, so you can't see what the *** your doing. Anyways, I was thinking of wrapping a plastic bag over it (not just a normal, Wal-Mart bag, but an I. V bag, thick and heavy duty, and sealing the top with some glue. And staples. And duck tape! The reason I want to do this instead of getting a disposable water proof camera is cause I want to video tape on the cheap. I will also be taking a disposable water proof camera just for pics.

I'd avoid the staples, don't pierce the material!
It certainly could work if you don't go any deeper than 3 feet. Then again, you could make a mistake and drown the camera.'
