Can rain get in a weather proof camera if the lens is not weather proof?

Will it just damage the lens or will it damage the body too because the lens leaks water through the lens mount and into the camera? What lenses are weather proof? I heard 70-200mm and 24-70mm are so is it mostly expensive ones? (both Nikon/Canon)

Yes you can get water in your gear that way. That's why there's always an optech rainsleeve in my bag.

Nikon is not very clear on the matter, only on their top end lenses they inform their customers. From experience I can tel you that the 70-300 VR and the 16-85 can both take quite a bit of rain.

Most of canon's L-series is more or less weather resistant.

Just buy a rain cover for your camera.Pro cameras and lenses are resistent to the rain but they are very expensive.
