Which nikon camera models are the best and why?
If you are a pro shooter and cover more than 10 to 15 assignments a week, then the Nikon D4s or D3s would be the best choice. They perform very well in low light (low noise) and can shoot over 3,000 shots on a single battery, over 4,000 if you have the D3s
For amazing resolution, the Nikon D800e or D810 are good choices Most of my colleagues who shoot Nikon's have one of the D4 or D3 variants and one of the D800 variants in their kit.
These cameras are robust and can take the abuse that professional photographers rain down on their equipment on a daily basis
This kind of quality is going to cost you, however.
Nikon D4s, body only $6,000 and the body of a D810, $3,000 (plus another $600 for the battery grip)
You asked for the best and this is what they are.
If you are a student have have a smaller budget and are not going to be putting 750,000 shutter cycles on your camera in the next five or six years, then of course the Nikon D5500 or D7200 are good choices
But only you can determine which model is best for your and your circumstances. I suggest you spend some time on the Nikon website with a pencil and notepad so you can take excellent notes on each camera
