Oh boy… Not this again…

The truth? NEITHER. Period.

The only reason the pros choose one brand over the other, is simply the way it fits in their hands, and you only have to buy gear for one brand. I started out with Olympus, then switched to Nikon, and had to re-buy some gear:/

People have been arguing about this for years. There's no answer. What ever you like better is the only thing that matters.

me, I like nikon better, they're easier to handle, richer and sharper colour pictures (in my opinion of course) and nikon has a much larger variety of lenses.

If you're looking to buy one, narrow down your options, research them, compare photos taken by them, and most importantly, try it out in the store.

I recently bought myself a Nikon D90, i love it as it is my first SLR camera, my dad helped and influenced me with my purchase as he was a previous nikon user. I love the camera and the way it shoots. My advice is just to see which camera has the effects and the accessories (video etc) that you want in a camera, thats the best option.

YAWN - not this question again.

The "best" is the camera which YOU like best because it has the feel, facilities, qualities etc etc that YOU want/need.

Technically they are equal.
I prefer Canon, others prefer Nikon, other prefer others
Try one of each and decide which you like best - that is the one for you.

This weekend I was talking to someone who has worked for 15+ years in a major UK photographic retailer. He reckons that he can tell a Nikon user from a Canon user as soon as he walks into the store. The Canon user is the one with a smile on his face!
