I'm thinking of buying a DSLR camera. I haven't bought one before and I was wanting to get some suggestions. I need one that is easy to figure out. The main type of photography I do is Macro. Can you please help me?

$500 will get you a Nikon D3000 with a standard lens. Macro has to do with the lens, not the camera.

Both brands are equal, especially when it comes to the beginner models within your budget. For good macro shots you will need a dedicated macro lens, which will cost at least $350 more than the camera.

I like Nikon better. You get more boom for your buck. But I doubt you'll find a DSLR camera for under $500 unless you buy used.

The kit lens is not good for much with either brand. Both brands are excellent choices. I think Nikon has more reasonable lens pricing for the average user and Canon better pricing on pro lenses.

Canon EOS XS, T3 and Nikon D3000 are the only ones below $5000.

Easy to figure out is relative. It's not like you need to figure out a password before you use it. A DSLR is a DSLR, once you know one, you know them all.
