I desperately need to buy Great DSLR around this price tag. By searching days and nights on internet, I've shortlisted these two cameras. With same price tag other brands like Nikon and Canon does not stand anywhere of these two. But i'm very confused in between. I'm not sure whether il get that holding DSLR feeling with sony a33, it has amazing video capture options but i'm not into videos much. I'm concern about picture quality and reliability… Please Help!

I don't know all that much about the pentax but from what I've read about it, it seems as if it was your garden varienty entry level DSLR based on a pentaprism although there are quite a few good features about it. The a33 on the other hand is based on a totally different technology altogether, the single translucent mirror. Basically, it means that the mirror that reflects light onto the viewfinder does not have to mechanically "move out of the way" for the camera to take the picture. This has some benefits, mainly faster AF which is desirable if you want to take action pictures and in movie mode that a33 can continously autofocus while shooting video. One effect of the SLT design is that the camera is noticeably smaller than a traditional DSLR with a pentaprism. So yeah you won't get the feel or heft of a traditional DSLR. I've handled one of these and while I like the technology behind the single translucent mirror, hand feel is also important to me so I passed on the a33 to wait for another SLT with a better hand feel (and this despite the fact that I'm a big Alpha fan). Hope this helps.

Both are quality cameras. You can rely on both models. Picture quality will be more or less the same if you use them at equal settings. That's because picture quality depends mostly on the phtographer. The camera is merely a tool.

The advantage of Pentax is the decades long experience it has over Sony. To start out their dSLR lineup, Sony acquired Konica-Minolta's dSLR technology. That happened only a few years back. That would explain why Pentax would have more lenses than Sony. Pentax glass has been well respected in the old glory days of film and those lenses can all be used on the newer Pentax dSLRs. Sony still has to prove itself with its lenses.

I actually looked a similar question last several days. In trying to find the solution I found a way to get a free Flip video camera from www.simplyminoflipportal.tk! My Flip Mino is scheduled to ship next week and I love it!

Enjoy the new phone

Hold them both, simple as that.
