Nikon SLR Cameras

Sony a33, a35, or Nikon D3100?

I've been doing a lot of research on cameras and I've got it down to these three. I've already checked the prices on them and they're affordable for me, so price isn't a problem. I really can't decide which one to get because they all seem so similar. I'm not very knowledgeable with cameras, nor am I a professional photographer. I guess you could say I'm just your average user, looking to better my photography skills, and I want a very good camera to help me do that. One thing I like better about the Sony's is that their screen resolution is higher than the Nikon. And I really like the flip out screen on the a33. But that all isn't really important. What matters most is image and video quality. And that's what I really need help with. So please let me know which is better. Also I'd like to know about your experience with these cameras if you've ever owned any of them.

The A35 is/was the follow up to the A33 and it's one of those cameras you'll either love or hate. I would seriously try to find some where that stocks both the Nikon D3100 and the Sony A35. Some people just can't live with the Electronic View Finder (EVF) on the Sony cameras.

When it comes to the overall package the Sony SLT-A35 has a very slight technical edge, but it really is a close call.

This comparison shows them in a tie.

For video, the Nikon's continuous focus is a big plus but the external mic jack on the Sony will really make a difference if you're serious about video.

Sony has several technical advantages, such as greater dynamic range, better image quality and better color depth.

You really need to look at the electronic viewfinder. That could be a deal breaker.
