I believe Canon has much better quality then Nikon.
But do some reasearch, that's just my opinion.

Both Nikon & Canon are strong market leading brands, personally wouldn't have a problem buying either.

There's no quality difference between Nikon and Canon. In other words, you would never be able to line up a bunch of pictures and identify the Nikon vs. Canon images.

I have always used Nikon. I like the feel, and the D7000 is a phenominal camera.

There are great choices to select from in either brand. I'd always choose a Canon camera because in the photography magazines and books I read on technique, the Canon is the camera of choice. I find the picture quality to be outstanding.

Neither is definitively better than the other. Among professionals, they hold equally good reputations. I currently shoot Canon but, I'd gladly shoot Nikon if I were willing to pay the price of switching. The primary reason for brand/system loyalty among pros is just that, the cost of switching brands/systems after you've spent several years investing thousands or tens of thousands of dollars into lenses, bodies, and accessories for one system or the other. In my case, I've got three Canon bodies, a little more than a half dozen lenses, and four or five Canon speedlites and PocketWizard transceivers. Even if I could get top dollar for selling all that gear, it would cost me nearly $5, 000 to replace all of it with Nikon equivalents and there's no reason to expect my pictures would be any better because of it.

It really doesn't matter, neither is better nor worse than the other.

I chose Canon simply because I preferred the button layout of the DSLRs and they are more compatible with older manual focus lens systems using an adapter. I use M42 lenses, OM and Contax/Yashica on my Canon 20D with infinity focus. I'm unsure about the OM and C/Y lenses but I know that I can't use M42 lenses on a Nikon and achieve infinity focus without using a glass element in the adapter which reduces image quality.

That is my reason for choosing Canon, but at the end of the day it's all about personal choice.
