Where is the monitor button on nikon?

I have a Nikon camera, and it says that my monitor is off. I can't take any pictures, please help I'm on vacation, I need my Nikon to work.
It only says: Monitor off and on the top of camera it says Error.

There's more than one Nikon camera. The best thing for you to do is call Nikon at 1-800-NIKON-UX ( 1-800-645-6689) and have them help you.

This symbol is also used on many other brand cameras.
To go to view mode to take a photo, some Nikons toggle the function. That is, push the > button once, and it will go to photo playback mode. Push it again, and it will go to the shooting mode.
Other Nikons have a second button that looks like [O] more or less which puts the camera into shooting mode.
Sounds like your camera has other issues though.
