When will we see the first 2k prosumer camera for under $800?

When will be see the first fully developed interchangeable lens 2k camera for under 800? Will it be Canon who tackles this one? Nikon? Or some obscure camera company?

Hopefully it will be full frame 35mm!

I wouldn't expect it anytime soon- 2k and 4k cameras are only needed for broadcast quality filming and those buying are generally not as price sensitive as the mass retail market. They are just as concerned about all the other features such as sensor sizes, optics quality etc as they are about resolution. Since it is generally business and commercial usage, many of those utilising these cameras do not own them- they are company/agency property.

Will it happen? Maybe one day- but since the cheapest "entry level" full frame still DSLRs are still over $1,5k, I doubt that a full frame 2k camera under $800 is on the near horizon.

When it comes to prosumer video cameras, it's likely to be either Sony or Panasonic, though Canon is an outside chance and Nikon, aren't really in that game.

Then again, it's a product sector that may never appear, as it's possible that things could jump straight to 4K, though as a standard that could go the way of Betamax as Samsung are already muddying the waters. Muddying the waters tend to happen when the industry can't get together to agree standards or don't make them open, even though there are no bars to entry!

$800 prosumer? It's cutting-edge technology. Wait some 10 years or so before price goes down.
