What lenses will fit nikon d3300?
I really would like to buy some older nikon lenses to fit on my camera but I'm not sure which ones will fit. Can anyone recommend a good older lens for my nikon d3300? Also will other brands lenses fit with an adaptor?
Old Nikon AF lenses will fit your camera but will not autofocus. Same with old third-party lens brands that were made for film cameras. Older manual focus lenses can be made to fit your camera using an adapter but the trouble to use it wouldn't be worth the effort. You lose all automatic features and shoot without the benefit of a lightmeter.
Your camera does not have a built-in focus motor so if you want to preserve the autofocus feature, you will have to limit your self to buying lenses with an internal focus motor like the Nikon AF-S and AF-I spec'd lenses. Those are all digital and considerably new. G Any lenses that is made for it should fit just fine. Glad I could help. Any older Nikkor lenses which are either AF-I or AF-S lenses will fully function on your entry level camera
When a person knows that they want to build their lens kit using all the Nikkor lenses, manual focus AI and autofocus AF, AF-I and AF-S, they buy one of the more advanced cameras like a D90 or better (D7000 and up)
If you do not mind using the electronic rangefinder in the camera's viewfinder, you can use any of the AF lenses. While they will not autofocus with your camera (because they do not have an autofocus motor in the lenses), they do communicate with the camera so you can use its lightmeter Almost any lenses intended for a Nikon camera will fit, although not all will auto focus due to there being no motor in the D3300 body.
Other branded lenses are available, for example Sigma who make lenses for several cameras but you need to make sure it has a Nikon fitting.
There may be adaptors available to use other camera lenses but the Nikon has a small spacing behind the lens compared to most, so adaptors will be limited at best as most would be the reverse adaptor, eg to fit a Nikon lens to a Canon camera.
