It's a great camera. Lots of beginner features as well as professional features. Lightweight and easy to use, with an onboard user's manual. Best to get the bundle deals with the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm Nikon VR lens. B&H Photo/Video has some good deals right now

It is a fine entry level camera which will allow you to start building a Nikon camera system. Over the years ahead, you can add more lenses which will help you to shoot amazing photos using fisheye's to extreme telephoto lenses.

Not as good as the Pentax K-50, while a similar price.
(The K-50 is weather-sealed, has a pentaprism viewfinder with 100% coverage, and meters with legacy lenses.)

You pay a little extra for the Nikon name.
Is it the best camera in its price range? No, not in my opinion. That award would go to the Pentax K50.
The K50 does everything that the D3300 can do with the following additional advantages:
- Faster AF
- Faster continuous shooting
- Faster shutter speeds
- In body image stabilization allowing any compatible lens to be stabilized. This allows you to get combinations of body/lens that is simply not possible with anything from Canon or Nikon.
- Weather-proof body
- Costs less than the D3300
- Pentax lenses are just as good.

A very nice camera with Sony made 24 MP sensor will give you excellent dynamic range.
