What is the use of lens adaptor and lens filter? Are the two the same?
I have nikon p 510 if i buy lens adaptor for this can i place a different lens on my camera?
Actually your fine bridge P&S camera uses no adapters.
Look here and you will see that there are NO adapters or lens filters available for your camera

If you had a proper dSLR, each lens has a filter thread where you can attach various filters.
Lens adapters are generally used to attach none compliant lenses to a camera body. The reduce all the photography to strictly manual modes
Yes a lens adapter is designed to allow other lenses to fit you camers. There are some companys that make lenses and you have to buy the adapter for your camera, this is good if you want to invest in a number of lenses and then decide you want a different brand of camrea, then you just have to buy a new adapter insted of a whole new set of lenes
A lens filter is an atachment that you put at the other end of you lens, it is ment to alter the light before it enters the lens. I personaly have invested in a Polorized filter that I use on bright sunny days
