I was looking on getting a Nikon 300mm f/4.0 IF-ED AF-S Lens with a Nikon TC-14E II (1.4x) Teleconverter but when i saw the price i reconsidered. Are there any other lenses and teleconverters i could buy that are cheaper but still have the same image quality and fast focus speed and goes up to 300mm?

There are a few Nikkor lenses that have a 300 mm focal length.

AF-S 300 mm f/2.8 VR About $5, 900
AF-S 300 mm f/2.8 About $5, 500
AF-S 300 mm f/4 About $1, 500
AF-S 70-300 VR mm f/4.5~5.6 About $600
AF-S 55-300 VR mm f/4.5~5.6 About $300
AF 70-300 mm f/4~5.6 About $175

As you can see, if you need a fast lens, you are going to have to spend the money

Nikon TC extenders only work with specific lenses, which you can see the list by visiting the Nikon website. As a rule of thumb, only some long lenses that are f/4 or f/2.8 can use the extenders

All but the two under $400 lens produce very high quality images and all AF-S lenses auto-focus very fast.

The two economy lenses are fine for beginning amateur photographers and can take good quality images but are not robust enough for professional work

I own the 70-300vr & above 200mm there's a drop in the quality so if you're looking for something extremely good at 300mm you won't find it with this lens.

You could look for used Nikon 300mm f/4 AF, they made the last one in 2000, the optical quality is pretty good and the build is solid.
