What does an audio visual cable do?

I bought a Nikon camera recently and it came with one, I'm wondering what its for and where/what i plug it into?

It is do you plug the camera into your TV, to view pictures and videos on it.

The user manual should explain where the camera end o the cable plugs into. On my older Nikon, it had a proprietary USB/A/V connector, where the USB or A/V cable could connect. I have a newer cheap camera which used the same connector, but came with a USB-A/V combo cable.
