What Camera warranty?
Should i buy a 3 year warranty for the nikon d5200 for $100 or just get the 1 year warranty for free?
It depends. How long are you thinking of keeping your camera? If you plan on keeping it for more then one year, buy the 3 year warranty.
Just get the 1yr warranty. Anyhow if the camera is defective it will not take more than 1 year. That you will not notice it. Every gadget durability i think depends how you handle it properly.
One year is all it will take to find out if anything is wrong with your camera, you don't need 3.
I started with a Nikon CP990 in 2000, purchased a 3 year warranty, had a bad pixel in first year covered by Nikon & never used the extended warranty. Gave the camera away 2 years ago &, afaik, it is still in use. After that I never purchased an extended warranty and have owned: Nikon CP8400 - Still use it, Panasonic FZ20 - Gave to a friend and still working, Sony pocket cam that failed after 5 years, Panasonic pocket cam - Still using & a Nikon D300 - Still using. After the 990, I never purchased an extended warranty.
This is my experience yet I take care of my equipment and don't drop or bump it around. I don't let people borrow my better cameras but do let them use the pocket cam, which may be the reason the Sony failed.
You could use the $100 to purchase an extra battery & memory card or 2. Save it towards another lens or just put it back in your pocket.
