I'm looking to buy a professional camera, and I was just wondering. I've looked at so many, and I can't decide.

Nikon and Cannon are the top 2. You can't go wrong with either one. I like Nikon D 6000.

Nikon Is the Best Camara

Nikon. Reasons.
1. They haven't change lens mount and most lens and bodies are now interchangable and backwards comatible with their gear from '70
2. User friendly menus on entry DSLRs and very easy to use Pro DSLRs because of dedicated buttons
3. Autofocus LED instead of canon's version of bursting flashes
4.AF lenses cheaper than competitors. A little slower to focus too and vont autofocus with entry DSLRS

I prefer Canon. Not because of image quality (both Canon and Nikon have similar image quality) but because of personal preference.

Canon, Nikon and Pentax and to an extent Sony are good DSLR companies.

Sony is a good Point and Shoot.

Canon offers many entry-level DSLR's:
Rebel t3i/600D
Rebel t2i/550D
Rebel T3/1100D
Basically pick based on what you can afford

Olympus. Just a personal preference.

Canon is simply the best! Why?
Best priced and performances DSLRs for all budgets.
Excellent sharp image quality and equally excellent hd videos. Nikon is still lagging behind in video.
Best value for money lens, name one Nikon lens which can beat Canon 50mm f1.8 in price and performance! Wide array of lens!
Wide array of accessories!
It's Canon the build quality is superb and will increase it's toughness with it's price.

Best upper entry level DSLR Canon T3i/600D

When you invest in Canon u r investing in its long long expertise in Photography and that is worth the money!

Professionals wanting a DSLR use Canon or Nikon almost to the exclusion of all others.

I prefer Olympus and it's 4/3 lens system plus image engine now is really sharp(E-5).It is a nice basic double of the focal length from standard 35mm fullframe. So for example 50-200mm is equivalent to 100-400mm for 35mm. Optically olympus is excellent too. Sometimes it is also a little more portable. They also have their micro 4/3 range too.

Nikon, mainly personal preference. Canon cameras offer just as good quality images as Nikons. Of course when you compare models side by side there are some differences. Such as Nikon D3S has less noise when used at high ISO (102400) then compared to the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV. Of course both photos would have plenty of noise but if you compared pictures side by side the Nikon would have less noise. The Canon offers much better video recording however, the Canon has 60 frames per second while the Nikon only has 24.

Overall i like Nikons more, i like the way they look, the way they feel in your hand, and also i find it easier to shoot with a Nikon. Mostly though its just personal preference.

I do like Olympus' rangefinder cameras such as the PEN E-P3, nice design, good quality photos. Leica is very good brand for rangefinder cameras but expensive. (Leica M9 =D)

I own, or have owned Nikon, Canon, Olympus, and Fuji.

I prefer Nikon, at least for DSLRs. For compact point & shoots, the choices are not as clear.

In the film SLR days, I used to own Canon. But when they changed their lens mount from FD to ES, all of my lenses (and I had several) became instantly obsolete, and I could not use them on any of the newer Canons.

At that time, I dumped Canon and went Nikon.

Today, a 50 year old Nikon lens will work on a new DSLR. While the practicality of that might not be significant, it can be done.
