Nikon SLR Cameras

Photography world is head over heels in love with the Olympus OM - Is it that good?

I been reading forums and people saying they have dumped their Canon/Nikon DSLRs and just using the OM.

What do you think?

Is it worth spending £800 on?

No. The E(volt) DSLRs are superb, but an EVIL camera built to look like a DSLR is still an EVIL camera.

Anyone buying one is beyond human aid.

I don't what world you came from and what materials you're reading but no, none, no and welcome.

For clarity, the Olympus OM cameras were 35 mm and their lenses are not compatible with the Olympus 4/3 sensor cameras.

What forums have you been reading?

Those of us who use Nikon and Canon dSLRs prefer the larger sensors and Olympus does NOT have a full frame sensor.

Take a look at the sensor performance of the Nikon, Canon and Olympus digital cameras.

That data should answer your questions.

When it comes to sensor performance, you will see that 46 other cameras out perform the highest rated Olympus digital camera

I think you mean the OM-D.

From what I have read, people are switching to micro four thirds systems for two main reasons.
1) they realize that they are just hobbyists and don't really need a full blown DSLR system, making the increased portability of a camera like the OM-D very attractive.
2) because of the way micro four thirds lenses mount, almost any lens ever made will work if you get an adapter. I know of several people who are putting legacy Leica lenses on micro four thirds cameras because they then don't have to spend $6K on a Leica camera body.
