Nikon 1 J1 or V1 (or alternative brand)?

Seriously considering getting the new Nikon 1, but there are two models… The cheaper J1 (sounds like it is for beginners), or the V1.

From what I can see, the J1, apart from the lack of viewfinder, are there many differences?

Alternatively, any recommendations of better cameras like this?

There's no beginner or anything between the two. They're just hybrid cameras, a notch up from bridges for people yearning more from a point-and-shoot. If you know photography, it would be better to get a dSLR instead.
