There's no doubt the Sony A9 is one of the most interesting cameras to be released in the last few years.

For mirror less cameras buy a silly Sony, for a DSLR with better battery life buy a nutty Nikon.

One will be better for some people and the other for others.

For some, neither will be "best".

I prefer Pentax.

The difference is equivalent to 6 of one and half-dozen of the other. In other words, "best" for WHAT? I'm a Nikon user for many decades, and I'm totally happy with both my Nikons (yes, I'm one of those who prefers to shoot with two cameras, each one equipped with a different focal length… It's easier and faster than fumbling, juggling to switch lenses during a shoot and I've been doing this since the late '60s). My good friend and neighbor uses, strangely enough, a Sony… Because it serves HIS purpose and needs. They're both cameras, and cameras take photos when the operator presses the shutter release button… A camera is a camera is a camera is a camera, is a… (into infinity).

As difficult as it may be for you to get your head around this fact, Sony & Nikon each market dozens of camera models, in all formats & price ranges. Your question is meaningless.

Sony makes easier to use point-and-shoot cameras compared to Nikon. Sony also has more experience with mirrorless cameras than Nikon. However, Sony does not make dSLRs anymore so Nikon is better with that nowadays.
