Should I switch my Canon 60D to a Nikon D7100?
I Really am not liking my Canon 60D for several reasons. I'm thinking about switching to a Nikon D7100 for these reasons.
- Better low-light performance (the 60D has noise even at ISO 400)
- More auto-focus points
These are my two main points. I want to do birth photography so need good low-light. But would this be a better investment? I don't have huge amounts invested in Canon so am open to the change but just want to hear the thoughts of others.
If you need the features of the Nikon D7100, then you need them
Usually it is not economically feasible to switch camera brands once you have already built a system, but if your business can absorb those costs then go ahead and make the switch.
The D7100 is known for two things; good low-light/high-ISO performance and image sharpness.
The D7100 also has one of the lowest shutter delays if not the lowest delay for APS sized DSLRs; under 0.050sec. This may be important for action and sports as the typical consumer-grade DSLR has around a 0.250sec delay.
And the D7100 will provide sharper photos as it does not have the anti-aliasing filter that all Canon DSLRs have, and most Nikon DSLRs have as well. The anti-aliasing filter is there to cut down on moire, and it does that by softening the photo.
But Nikon has discovered it is not needed with the higher megapixel sensor cameras, so both the D7100 and D800 do not have them, resulting in sharper photos.
Some reviews I have seen have shown acceptable low-light performance even at ISO 2500.
At this point, the D7100 is the best APS DSLR camera you can buy.
NO, canon, has many features that you don't have with nikon. Stick with your canon. It will change your photography style!
